Issue Report: SPAZ: Window focus control issue
If anything steals focus from the SPAZ's window while playing you cannot refocus on the window and cannot shut it off without using a kill command.
For example, an Ubuntu update notification occurs while playing SPAZ. You are pulled out of the SPAZ window and cannot refocus on the window to continue playing. You also cannot close the window and must resort to killing the process in system monitor or terminal.

And a related issue is that you cannot alt-tab out of the game. If the game freezes, you cannot shut it off with alt-f4 or basically do anything. All you can do is activate the dash with the super key or the hud with the alt key, however you cannot type anything into those, making the effort useless. The only way to stop SPAZ when it is frozen (without something stealing miraculously window focus) is a hard reset. It doesn't freeze often though. Twice in 30 hours of play time.

This is all in windowed mode. Do not know if the issue persists in full screen.

And now my system information:

Not a fix by any means, but you should be able to do ctrl+alt+F1, login, do killall SPAZ, and do ctrl+alt+F7 to get back to the X session.

Try to disable "Capture mouse to screen" in SPAZ options. Maybe it will help.

I also encountered this issue. And it was the "Steam Update News" window that stole the focus from SPAZ. I was still able to use the mouse in other windows, and the rest of Unity (so I was able to logout of Unity to kill the process), but could not give the focus back to the SPAZ window.

Same issue, windowed mode. Once I start SPAZ, I cannot use anything else on my desktop (alt-tab, alt-f4, any Compiz shortcuts) at all unless I can exit through the in-game menus, or switch (alt+ctrl+f1) to a terminal and kill -9 it.

This is a very severe bug IMHO.
