Issue Report: Unable to connect to the Steam network

I get this error immediately when I start the Steam client.

System info:

OS: Ubuntu 12.04

Have you been able to connect successfully at any time or is it intermittent? Also, have you tried at different times during the day or another day (I see this when the network is down for maintenance or other reasons)?

I'm having the same problem. As an added quirk, I am getting special access code emails from steam, so it would seem that it's connecting just fine (I even got a window to enter my code once, but the connection failed when I tried to punch it in).

I found another thread where this was assigned tracking ID 93672. I figured I'd tack my info onto this thread in the hope that it might help. I'm going to go try logging on from a different network and check in later.

After trying to log in from various networks and switching between root and my normal user, Steam ran an update and now I can login with my root account. Still can't connect to network as a user though.

This happened to me initially when trying to sign-in. It sent me an access code e-mail directly after shutting down. I tried signing in again, it complained about connection issues. I got a second access code e-mail. I tried again, it let me enter the access code, said my machine was added, then shut down again? Then wouldn't let me connect for the next 5-10 tries. Upon trying again after a few minutes, it finally opened and appears to be working.

Nope. Nevermind. It's just in offline mode. It's still not working. No connection. :-(

I had the same problem unitl it was fixed with an update. Now I have it set up to run with sudo. No problems here.
