Issue Report: Steam notifications stealing/breaking text focus.
While typing something into Konversation (my IRC client), if a Steam notification appears (eg. friend is playing game-a) it steals the text focus and puts it onto the Steam window. Basically it stops keyboard presses being entered into Konversation and starts keyboard presses being entered into the Steam window, so if a game is highlighted in the Library section of Steam and hit enter when this occurs it would launch the game in Steam instead of sending an IRC message in Konversation. The only way to restore focus after that is to focus on some other window and then refocus on the Konversation's window.

A similar bug happens when chatting with a friend in Steam's chat windows. I'm typing in a Steam chat window, a notification appears, and then I lose text focus in the Steam chat window. The way this differs from the first bug however is that the focus is only lost when the notification is ending (sliding back down off-screen) whereas with Konversation it is the moment the notification appears.

I've tested to see if this happens in other situations, such as while typing a google search or typing in gedit. It does not occur in these situations.

I hope I've described the bug clearly.

I can reproduce this issue on my Archlinux x64 system. It seems to only happen in Qt environments such as KDE.

Thanks. We have this in our bug list and will be fixing it.

This bug also minimizes your game window when you're playing and someone is sending you chat messages. I'm using Gnome 3 as DE.

I have all of the above issues on Arch x64 w/ KDE, everything up to date. It's very annoying because it makes using the Friends feature almost unusable

Looking forward to a fix

Yeah, happens on Kubuntu, annoying as ♥♥♥♥
polomi 9/dez/2012 às 4:43
Happens as well on Lubuntu 12.10

I confirm this.
Ubuntu with Unity.
Steam notification minimizes current running game. So I cannot restore it and I need to restart game.

I would also like to confirm this. I see the same behavior as SkaarjZR when playing Team Fortress 2: the game actually minimizes to bring the Steam window to the front whenever a notification appears.

Running Ubuntu 12.10 with GNOME 3.6.1.

+1, on ArchLinux XFCE

It happens to me, but i think only once...
I was searching something in firefox, and when a friend talked to me, it started to write to the chat window instead of in the firefox search box..

Thanks Scott!

Are there any plans to use libnotify[developer-next.gnome.org] for Steam notifications?
