Most steam games require steam running, but you can get KF running with:
~/Steam/SteamApps/common/KillingFloor/System > LD_LIBRARY_PATH=~/.steam/bin ./killingfloor-bin

Would you ‘verify the integrity of game cache’ to make sure it downloaded ok? It’s accessible from the local files tab on the game’s properties view.

verifying fixed it. 44 files were bad. Thanks.
