Issue Report: Mouse cursor changes as long as Steam is running
Steps to reproduce:
  • Close Steam.
  • Change your cursor size or cursor theme to something other than Ubuntu's default. This command will do the trick:
    gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size 32
  • Open Steam. Note that your default cursor has changed back to the DMZ-White theme with size 24, and this is the case throughout the desktop — not just in Steam itself. This remains until you close Steam.

To change your cursor size back, run this command in a terminal:
gsettings reset org.gnome.desktop.interface cursor-size

I originally noticed this because I use the Ubuntu GNOME Remix, which has a different default cursor theme than stock Ubuntu. The same issue will appear with other configurations as well.
Instead, Steam just shouldn't be changing the cursor theme.

I can confirm this for Xfce 4.10, Xorg 1.13.0, Gtk 2 (2.24.14). Steam enforces another mouse cursor theme (not even the default one). After closing Steam the mouse cursor keeps its properties. Issueing "xfconf-query -c xsettings -p /Gtk/CursorThemeName -s 'Default'" (or whatever is appropriate) changes it back to normal when Steam is closed.

Edit: The cursor is only displayed incorrectly on Gtk surfaces. Qt applications are not affected.

This also affects Enlightenment DR17, except when you click the desktop the proper mouse icon returns briefly
