When I try to open a menu (Steam, View, ...) most of the time (but not always) the application hangs. A transparent window appears, but then nothing happens any more, and I have to kill the application. The hang appears on both KDE and Unity. A screenshot can be found here[taburett.ch]
. It may or may not be related that I keep getting the following warning messages when running steam from the terminal:
(steam:5243): Gtk-WARNING **: A floating object was finalized. This means that someone
called g_object_unref() on an object that had only a floating
reference; the initial floating reference is not owned by anyone
and must be removed with g_object_ref_sink().

So far I haven't been able to reach Steam's system information window due to this bug, but I'll provide a summary of my system: It's a Laptop running Ubuntu 12.10 with the nvidia-experimental-310 driver. The graphics chip is a Nvidia GT218, the processor an Intel Core i7 620m, with 8 GiB of RAM. For more details see the output of lshw[taburett.ch]
