Issue Report: Steam GUI closes right-click menus erratically
Whenever I right click something with a nested menu, such as a friend on the friend's list, as I mouse down to the nested menu (such as "invite to group"), as soon as something triggers the nested menu to close, such as mousing further down, the parent menu closes as well. Very easy way to replicate this is to right click any friend and just move the mouse down one-by-one through the options. As soon as the mouse leaves the hover zone of a nested pop up, both menus fade out instead of just the nested one.

I confirm this problem.

Thanks for the info.

Is this still happening after the recent client updates? We aren't seeing similar behavior here are Valve.
Netist 16 Νοε, 2012 @ 1:21μμ
Similar issue here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/1/882966056251002581/

Actually, it sounds like they may be the same issue.

Unless there's been an update today (not at home at the moment), it's still an issue for me, at least.

Yes, I'm up to date right now and the issue still exists.

Netist, to confirm your info from your other post you do not have multiple monitors, correct? We have several reported bugs with mouse input being off with multiple monitors, but if you don't have multiple monitors that can't be the issue.

You both seem to be on 64-bit also, which may or may not be meaningful, but I'm running 32-bit and I don't see any problems with the repro you give. I'll see about trying it on 64-bit.

That is correct, I am not currently using multiple monitors.

And it's not exactly an issue with mouse input being off. Menu options ARE highlighted where my mouse is. But, as I said in my post, once I go passed a certain threshold, the menu disappears.

I can also reproduce this, my main thought on the matter is that it might be related to the fact that I have my desktop environment using a 'focus follows mouse' approach and the pop-up menus appear to be acting as separate X11 windows; so perhaps once focus leaves the main steam window (for the menu window) steam decides to close the menu?

Galevay, that's good information as a loss of focus will close a popup menu. Each popup menu is a separate X window so it's possible there's something getting confused in focus-follows-mouse mode. For the other people on this thread, do you have a similar mode configured?

I have the same problem. No dual monitor, no focus follows mouse.
It only happens, when i hover a menu in a context menu, i.e., right click on a friend, which opens a new menu, like "Invite to group" or "invite to chatroom". If I switch back and forth between these two menu items the context menu does not get closed, but if I hover "Invite to trade", which would not open a child menu, the context menu closes. However, this also happens when using the keyboard to navigate in the context menu, but always after entering a submenu with the arrow right key and leaving it with left key.

I am using Kubuntu with KDE 4.9.2. This problem does not exist when kwin is not running.

Has this improved with the most recent client? We did find and fix one problem specifically with the friends menu that could cause the menu to spontaneously close. We haven't seen other general problems in the menuing system (other than it doesn't cooperate well with sloppy focus settings).
Dyrvër 7 Δεκ, 2012 @ 9:34πμ
This problem is still showing up for me, but only when I reach the trade option, if I move outside and around before reaching that portion it will not close the menu. However this is on 12.10 64-bit Kubuntu with updates from the xorg-edgers PPA. Weird enough it only happens while using a downward motion in the menus, if I come at it from the bottom it will stay visible as well.
partizan 7 Δεκ, 2012 @ 2:32μμ
Can confirm this behavior with gnome-3 fallback and compiz (focus-follow-mouse not enabled). With gnome-shell or metacity as window manager menus works as expected.

Archlinux i686
gnome-shell 3.6.2-1
gnome-desktop 1:3.6.2-1
compiz-core 0.8.8-4

I have this problem as well and can confirm it is in the latest steam client. I was trying to remove a friend and I couldn't mouse down to the menu option but if I right clicked and then used the arrow keys it worked fine. I just couldn't get the mouse to go past about half way without the menu window losing focus.

I'm also seeing this on my desktop with dual monitors and on my notebook without dual monitors. I'm using KDE 4.9.3 without "Focus follows mouse" on Fedora 17 x86_64.
