Issue Report: Steam windows are unresponsive
1. When attempting to use the "Friends List" window in Steam, I find that the window is completely unresponsive to any attempt to move it, while the use of the List itself is unaffected.
2. On startup in Unity, the main Steam window has trouble with detecting the mouse, placing the region that is indicated to be highlighted by the mouse in a region vertically parallel but horizontally left of the actual position of the mouse. This can be resolved by moving the main window, but this causes this output from a terminal, as does any movement of the Steam window:
(steam:3498): Gtk-WARNING **: A floating object was finalized. This means that someone called g_object_unref() on an object that had only a floating reference; the initial floating reference is not owned by anyone and must be removed with g_object_ref_sink(). /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/menuproxies/libappmenu.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64 (steam:3498): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to load type module: /usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/menuproxies/libappmenu.so

Reproducing the Issue
Start Steam, and attempt to interact with the window. The Friend's List error (1) can be reproduced by opening the Friend's List and attempting to move it, and the command-line error (2) can be reproduced by moving the Steam window.

The first one, I've had but couldn't reproduce and only got every so often.

The second bug, I also have, which I have reported earlier. Thanks for reporting this as well so that it can help in confirming the problem and providing further data on the potential cause.

Out of curiousity, can you reproduce the second bug by enabling the "URL Address Bar" in the Steam --> Settings --> Interface?
That is what I reported as a method of reproducing the bug, but had replies that it didn't work for people.

Also, I think it would have been best to have reported the two bugs separately.

I cannot reproduce the bug through this method. It only occurs when starting Steam, regardless of the "URL Address Bar."

Also, you are right about reporting both bugs in one report; the report does seem a tad muddled. Thank you for pointing that out.

Thanks for the info Jengajam2.

We need help reproducing these problems. The first one we haven't seen and trying here are unable to reproduce it. More detailed steps to reproduce it would be good. The second one we've seen similar cases to this, but would like more information on how you've reproduced it. Thank you.

After the last Steam update to the Linux client (and it may be in part to my Xserver settings), problem #2 has not been occurring, although the aforementioned error still occurs occasionally after startup . Here is a paste of the current, entire startup process, for perspective: http://pastebin.com/Fbdxa0JB

Also, it appears that problem #1 is related directly to my multimonitor settings, as it has ceased occurring ever since I switched directly to using "Nvidia X Server Settings" to configure X. When I use the standard Ubuntu Configuration in "System Settings > Displays", it has only served to cause weird window behavior in several applications, including Steam and Unity itself, which I suppose is not to be unexpected on an experimental driver.

At this moment, I cannot reproduce either bug.
Thank you for your time.

"/usr/lib/gtk-2.0/2.10.0/menuproxies/libappmenu.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64"

I had the same problem on Kubuntu with KDE x64. The 32-bit version of appmenu-gtk was not installed so the process crashed as it is trying to use the x64 version. Installing the 32-bit version of appmenu-gtk fixed it for me.
