Issue report: Playing a video in the store's page "freezes"
I have "autoplay video" turned on. The video does not play and the whole page seems to freeze. The mouse wheel does not work. Moving the scroll bar does work but the page does not scroll with it.

What flashplayer do you have installed? It seems likely this is related to either flashplayer or gnash trying to display content and dying.

I use Google Chrome and uninstalled firefox (using apt-get --purge remove firefox). The flashplugin-installer package is still installed on my Ubuntu machine but I don't know if that means that this is an "active" version.

For my day to day browsing I use the flash player bundled with Chrome. When I type in chrome://plugins/ in my browser it reports the flash player version in /opt/google (see below for dump).

Adobe Flash Player (2 files) - Version: 11.5.31.2

If this is flash, it may be crashing due to video drivers, what nvidia or fglrx or intel driver are you using?

Uninstalling the flashplugin-installer may yield joy, let me know if that fixes it?

LordHavoc is there any chance for HTML5 video to come to Steam in the future?

As you can see I'm using an old AMD card. All I did was activate the AMD/ATI proprietary driver.

I'm going to uninstall flashplugin-installer and restart steam (I'm typing this in Steam right now).

Yup. It doesn't freeze now after uninstalling flashplugin-installer, but now the videos do not play (which is the expected behavior).

We're tracking this bug, the NPAPI (firefox) flash plugin is known to be unstable however and then affects any embedded use of it as well. No immediate solution.
