STEAM repository for Ubuntu 12.04/12.10
After steam self update, I reopened it and a popup informed that the steam client is out of date and I have to update it via downloading the latest .deb, or the repository. So I tried to find the official repository of steam, I found this URL: http://repo.steampowered.com/steam/, but no easy-to-copy-and-paste console commands as usual.
So I've managed to add the repository with this commands:

For the repo key:
wget http://repo.steampowered.com/steam/signature.gpg && sudo apt-key add signature.gpg

And the repo line for sources.list:
deb http://repo.steampowered.com/steam/ precise steam
(If you add this line via Software Sources or add-apt-repository you must comment/unmark the deb-src line or the apt-get update will fail)

I've tested this on an ubuntu 12.10 x64, I hope this helps.

The Steam package automaticly adds the repository. Just install steam_latest.deb for that.

Also, if you do add the repository manually, the update to the Steam package adds the repo again to your steam.list.d, resulting in a slightly annoying duplicate entry.

everybody knows this. it's debian-based linux 101.

I meant to add the Steam repository, you can, of course, download the authentication key and add it, add the repository to the sources.lst manually; but usually there is a PPA or an command sequence ready to paste it into a console to make it work. That is I was looking for.

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys B05498B7
sudo sh -c 'echo "deb http://repo.steampowered.com/steam/ precise steam" >> /etc/apt/sources.list.d/steam.list'

Then just 'apt-get update' as usual. It's a bit cleaner than the method used in this thread.
