Temp fix: Very low FPS in TF2(multiplayer)
Hello Steam.
Many of You may experience super low fps when playing TF2(there are a lot of threads about this). Sometimes its 2-7fps, sometimes you got stable 60. When I'm joining a server i always got like 2fps. Dunno why.
I have found a solution(few easy steps!):

After you connect to server and you have low fps:
  • [ESC]
  • Options -> Video -> Advanced
  • <change something> for me it is AA or shadows.
  • Apply changes & wait for map to reload
  • Enjoy your higher fps!

Mine rig:
AMD Athlon II x4 635 @3,3GHz
4GiGs of RAM
GTX 460 - driver version 313.09 ;o

Do you have some custom config or startup commands? (autoexec or something)
Cause changing ingame options also reverts some of the config commands, mostly related to video settings.

Yes, autoexec. It was taken from window's tf2.

fps_max 60
mat_disable_bloom 1
mat_hdr_level 2
mat_bumpmap 1
r_lod -1
cl_jiggle_bone_framerate_cutoff 29
//MOTIONBLUR
mat_parallaxmap 1
mat_motion_blur_falling_intensity 3
mat_motion_blur_falling_max 40
mat_motion_blur_falling_min 10
mat_motion_blur_forward_enabled 0
mat_motion_blur_percent_of_screen_max 5
mat_motion_blur_rotation_intensity 1
mat_motion_blur_strength 1
cl_ragdoll_collide 1 // Clientside ragdolls collide with other clientside ragdolls.
jpeg_quality 100
//HWM
mp_usehwmmodels 1
mp_usehwmvcds 1
cl_new_impact_effects 0
//PING
cl_cmdrate 66
cl_updaterate 66
cl_interp 0.0333
cl_interp_ratio 2
rate 100000
//GRAPH
net_graphproportionalfont 0
net_graphpos 1
net_graphsolid 1
net_graphtext 1
net_graphheight 1035
net_Graphpos 2
net_graph 2 // graph onoff
//MOTD
echo
echo ____________________________________________________
echo

Nothing special.

Well your autoexec is cause of your performance loss. I would remove all 'mat_', 'cl_jiggle' and 'cl_ragdoll' commands. Should fix the issue.

EDIT: You got wrong cl_cmdrate and updaterate values. You want those to be same or above your framerate (you got fps_max 60), since rates are linked to framerate.

Game runs fine on these 'performance loss' commands. Game works same without autoexec.
Thanks for protip.

@edit
i've just read it agan. WTF i wrote?
Game on windows works fine with this autoexec. On linux theres no difference between without/with autoexec. It lags on both :F
