Both are running here.
Game is Flash based, make sure you have it installed.
Steam overlay not working with these demos.
McRaia [Linux] Dec 13, 2012 @ 11:56pm
Overlay is off, flash installed and working (in-store video at least)

Hi guys. Thanks for reporting issues, I will be monitoring these threads.
What do you mean when you say 'steam overlay is off'?
McRaia [Linux] Dec 14, 2012 @ 6:15am
Steam overlay off == Not Enable Steam Community In-Game
Pixelsprite Dec 14, 2012 @ 9:59am
OK that's fine, cheers :)

The demo game is running for me (on Gentoo x86_64) but it
  • doesn't want to switch to fullscreen mode;
  • seems awfully laggy (but flash inside Steam clients also have lags but not so terrible);
  • constantly try switching to "Pause" while I try to interact with some objects or inventory in game

Hey Sorath

Regarding fullscreen:

TCM 1+2 currently rely on the wmctrl library for fullscreen support. We are working on an update to the fullscreen issues that will cut the dependency on wmctrl. I estimate it will be out late January but I can't promise.

You can install wmctrl by running: sudo apt-get install wmctrl

If you do not use wmctrl, and prefer another library disable the game's fullscreen option, so that it will not conflict with your actions.

Running the game in fullscreen will temporarily change your desktop’s resolution. When you quit the game, it will return your resolution to its initial settings.

Please do not change your desktop’s resolution while the game is running. It will conflict with the game and upon quitting the desktop's resolution might be reset and your changes could be lost.

Regarding the lag:
I haven't experienced much of it; could you tell me the specs of your system if possible?

Regarding the pause
Hmm could you try playing the game in fullscreen and tell me if it keeps doing that?

Cheers!

Pixelsprite, thank you for quick response!

Following your advice I installed package x11-misc/wmctrl-1.07-r1 (I use 64bit system) and try to run Demo "The Clockwork Man: The Hidden World" again.
The lags seems go away :)

The game could normaly switch for me to fullscreen after I checked appropriate option in settings and restart it. But even in fullscreen mode trying to interact with environment the game constantly switch to desktop (with changing of cursor to system default instead of game's one) and that lead to "Pause" like windows lose the fosus .

Also I note that if I click right mouse button in game windows than I see context menu that say about using Adobe Flash version 10 as in my system installed version 11 (or game brings own flash library with game?)

Then I try to play in windows mode and even could make some actions and normally interact with environment but then switching to "Pause" began again :(

So I give my system specs:
OS: Gentoo x86_64 kernel-3.5.7-gentoo
X Server: x11-base/xorg-server-1.13.0-r1 (with x11-base/xorg-x11-7.4-r2)
Video driver: x11-drivers/ati-drivers-12.11_beta (Catalyst-12.11_beta)
DE: KDE-4.9.3 (with enabled kwin effects - maybe it have an influence)
Adobe Flash Player: www-plugins/adobe-flash-11.2.202.258 (64bit + 32bit)

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 (3.2 GHz)
GPU: Radeon HD5850
RAM: 8 Gb
Could I give additional information?

Not a problem, happy to hlelp. Glad to hear that the fullscreen works OK now.

You are correct in that the game bundles its own Flash library :) I think with the next update a newest version will be used, but you shouldn't' have had these pausing/losing focus issues.

We almost have similar specs only I'm running Ubuntu rather than Gentoo; yet I don't think Gentoo is causing this. I have a hunch it's because of wmctrl.

The next update will most likely settle these issues.

Still cannot play it.

Msg (in box presented by window manager (metacity): /tmp/lfp8zgFwT: kan segment van gedeeld object niet in het geheugen plaatsen: Bewerking niet toegestaan

Translated: cannot put segment of shared object into memory. Action not allowed.

After this I get: "error: initialising plugin" and "error: initialising projector".

Hmm, is The Clockwork Man 2 Demo working OK for you? I have a hunch this is not directly game - related but perhaps related to its installation by Steam. I will check it out. Could you please let me know if the other demo works for you (The Clockwork Man: The Hidden World http://store.steampowered.com/app/111010 )?
McRaia [Linux] Dec 21, 2012 @ 4:02am
Nop, I just installed the demo's, to try. The Hidden World gives even less "output" to work with.

Downloaded The Hidden World (137MB) and installed again, to no avail. Same errors.

Thanks for your patience, and for trying again. I'm confounded by this error, I think it may be an issue with the tool we use as a Flash wrapper as the game doesn't even load (it stops at projector/plugin). I will get in touch with them and update as I find out more.
McRaia [Linux] Dec 21, 2012 @ 7:14am
Well, I'm on a 64bit system (Linux Mint 14), have a 32bit flashplayer available so I can get the flash vids in the store, but maybe these games look somewhere else for the flashplayer?
McRaia [Linux] Dec 21, 2012 @ 11:14am
@Pixelsprite: Earlier you wrote about wmctrl (message 7). I had it installed because of "steam-login". It is now removed, but now The Clockwork Man Demo gives an immediate segmentation fault without anything else.
