Issue Report: Big Picture mode has TERRIBLE sound performance
When I start in big picture mode the sound (ambient music etc) is very jittery. There are also visual artifacts but lots of other issue reports already mention this. Here are my system settings:

I also experience terrible sound performance in Big Picture in Linux, while this issue is limited to sound specifically; Graphics and CPU performance is fine. Big Picture worked fine performance-wise prior to recent Steam updates.

An audio file demonstrating the issue can be found here[ubuntuone.com].

I also encounter this issue. Sound is stuttering and overall performance is not too good.

GeForce GTX260 896 MB
4 GB of ram
Latest nvidia drivers (310)

It's worth to mention that when bigpicture mode is on, CPU usage raises up to 100% (I wonder if it may be caused by some software rendering mode in bigpicture?)

Probably has to do with how BPMode connects to PulseAudio. It happens for me too.

That's a different issue, I believe. This is about audio specifically not working well. Big Picture works fine for me aside the sound issue.

For those of you somewhat new to linux, let me assure you, this is not a linux or steam bug. It's a pulseaudio bug (feature?). You'd be better off searching for how to amputate the horrific pile of crap that is PA completely out of your distro. No pulseaudio here (and there never will be) and BP audio works fine.

I perfer ALSA to pulseaudio, especially if I only need one input/output for gaming, and I use my iPad for TeamSpeak/Skype. Makes the audio snappier :P

If it were exclusively Pulse Audio's fault, it wouldn't happen only after a Steam update. As I noted, this only happened after the latest Steam Linux update on December 11. Valve broke it, and it's up to them to fix it.
