A discussion forum is not a proper BUG REPORT system.
I was trying to report the most obvious bug: inverted (and wrong shape) cursor when running Steam. A simple search for "cursor" yields tons of repeated reports of the same kind.
It looks like people are not checking the issues and no one is cleaning the reports. I know they are gamers, not programmers, but it looks silly.

My suggestions:
1) Get bugzilla account, google code or whatever designed for bugs. It is not a shame using other people's software.
2) Moderate reports. Fuse or remove duplicates.
3) Assign bugs as [confirmed], [solved], etc

Who wants to host / set one up?
Definitely +1
Not to mention these forums are a bit of a pain in the ♥♥♥♥.

I'll at my voice to the chorus.

Looking at the posts from Valve employees, it sounds like they already have a bug tracker but it is private. They're manually trawling the forums and transferring relevant issues to the internal tracker.

If they don't feel they can make the internal tracker public (e.g. because conversations between the developers contain confidential information), then an external public tracker is probably not going to be any more use to them than this forum.

If you want to help organise things, then perhaps making a post summarising the the most commonly reported issues with links to the primary threads for each would be a good start. They might even sticky it for you.

Thank you for posting this! +1 from me as well. If they have a private bug tracker, fantastic. It's just empowering to be able to say "I reported a bug." and know it was heard or read by someone, somewhere.
+1, for both the bugtracker and the inverted mouse pointer :P

Bugzilla can have non-public components and non-public bugs on public components. Public bugs can block non-public bugs.
