Issue Report : "Inversed" cursor
I got a strange issue ...
An image is better than words :

As you can see, the cursor is "inversed".
That only happens on the steam's window.

Set your default theme in /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme

I confirm this bug.
MATE desktop under x86_64 Arch Linux.
The file mentioned by rLy does not exist in my system. Each theme has its index.theme but there is no "default" theme.

There are a lot of posts with this bug, and there are instructions on how to fix it in the Arch Linux Wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Steam#Mouse_Cursor_Overwritten
rLy 10 dec 2012 om 2:45nm
Just create it. It'll work. It's even mentioned on arch wiki https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Steam#Mouse_Cursor_Overwritten

LOL and i thought the cursor change inside the Steam window was intentional...

To complete the info here, because given solution does not work for me on Gentoo KDE, the problem is in missing "arrow" file in your current cursor theme. just do
ln -s left_ptr arrow

Thanks Plague, I can finally breathe normally after starting Steam now. :) Can't believe I got so bothered by it.
diafero 13 dec 2012 om 7:39vm
This is still a bug in Steam that should be fixed: Steam is changing the global cursor theme of the root X window. After starting Steam (and only then), this weird inverse cursor is also appearing in some other places, namely when opening a context-menu in a GTK-based application (like Firefox or Thunderbird) - I am using KDE as desktop environment.
Steam should obviously not mess with my global cursors...
Qantourisc 13 dec 2012 om 3:47nm
The ln trick might work, but it's not suppose to set it for the entire Xorg, session, just steam would do fine! And even that is not needed. I'm not quite sure why Valve even added that code.
z411 13 dec 2012 om 5:21nm
I can confirm what @diafero said, the X cursor is getting overwritten and it persists in some applications even after closing Steam. A workaround for this is running:

xsetroot -cursor_name left_ptr

I don't see any reason why Steam should be doing this, please fix this behavior.

The Sophisticated Man 17 dec 2012 om 11:49vm
I am having the same issue on Opensuse with KDE. Affects only Steam.
Spoonless 18 dec 2012 om 8:33vm
This is also occurring for me in Debian Wheezy. It only happens when steam is running, but it is persistent across all applications, when it does.

I get the same problem in debian, and it persists across all applications, even after closing steam.
hickop 3 jan 2013 om 11:37nm
Using Jimmac cursor theme on arch I had to replace /usr/share/icons/Jimmac/cursors/arrow symbolic link from right_ptr to left_ptr.
Would be better to not change steam cursor to arrow as not everyone use it.
