Issue Report: Client caused PC to hang

Happened only twice shortly after install but stopped now, update box popped up and caused system to hang badly, first time around needed to reboot, second time around hung for about 5 mins, currently waiting for games to install before other testing, big picture ... awesome!

RIG (stable):
CPU - AMD FX 8150 (o/c to 4.1 watercooled)
MOBO - Sabertooth 990FX
MEM - 16GB Ripjaws 1600 paired
GFX - Zotac Amped! 250gts 1.5GB (need an upgrade)
SSD - OCZ Vertex 4 125GB

OS - Ubuntu 12.10 64bit

Next time before resetting the PC:

[ # 1 ] you can login in a virtual terminal, using CTRL + ALT + F1 and maybe you have the chance to kill MainThrd (Steam) (CTRL+ALT+F7 or F8 to get back to the GUI)

[ # 2 ] use ALT + SYSRQ (printscreen) + K to kill instantly the current virtual terminal (in this case the graphical interface), instead rebooting the machine

Sorry I should have given more detail then just "reboot", went into VT but it would not kill, to the point the whole system just froze. Had no issues with hanging at all since, which is odd, everything is running quite well. Thanks for the tips tho!
