Issue Report: It makes no sense asking to create an icon in Start Menu
After installing a game, Steam asks if you want to create an icon in Start Menu. There is no Start Menu in Ubuntu.

Well, I have one in Mint and it seems to work. Is there nothing in the least similar in Ubuntu?

In unity it may not make sense, but others distro have a menu, i think

I think the OP might be wrong. I assume the 'create icon in Start Menu' is what writes the .desktop file to ~/.local/share/applications. And, if you don't have an entry there - the game won't show up when you search by name in the Unity Dash.

TLDR: Unity's 'Start Menu' is Dash.

Exactly. It makes perfectly sense if you have somewhere to place them, like a desktop, panel, or menu.

The way I see it is that the word "start" is wrong. If that was removed and it just read "Add an icon to the menu" or "add icon to the launcher" then it would help. The "start menu" is a Windows term and I don't think we need it.
I don't think we need to try and get into distro specific labelling when a generic term can cover them all.

The only supported distro nowadays is Ubuntu.

There is already a check for creating an icon in the desktop -> OK.
The check for creating an icon in the Start Menu -> Makes no sense in Ubuntu. And the Dash has no fixed icons in it, it only shows what you are searching for.

Exactly. I do not know if the term "Start" is used in the Mac version of Steam, but it should not be used in the Ubuntu version. I think this is a bug (a very minor one).

If you install Alacarte (renamed to main menu) you'll see the Start Menu is still very much part of Ubuntu just hidden deep inside Unity & it's Dash.
