Trine 2 Demo For Linux
I went under Linux in the Steam store and tried to download the Trine 2 demo to try it before buying it and an error message popped up saying that it is not for my system. So does anyone know how to get this downloaded and installed in Ubuntu? Thanks.

Probably does not exist.
I have quake 3 which exist for Linux, but steam haven't added it.
please let them decide on games to implement first, then they will probably ask what to add to the offering.
This is beta, please be patient.

Thanks, but since it was listed under linux already, I figured that it would download and install now not fail.

This is not a bug, it's how it is meant to be.
If there is a demo for the game, it will be listed on the page of that game. If the demo of the game is not available for your platform, you will get a message about that.
