Issue Report: Big Picture
I'm on a 64 bit system, and I had the wrong 32 bit compatibility library installed for my NVIDIA card - I didn't notice this up to the moment I tried entering the Big Picture mode, I hardly use other 32 bit software on this PC. When I clicked on the "Big Picture" button I got a black, fullscreen window, but nothing happened.

The output I got from launching Steam from a terminal window was:

SteamUpdateUI: An X Error occurred
X Error of failed request: GLXUnsupportedPrivateRequest

The problem is that I was stuck in a limbo (couldn't get back to the traditional UI, coulnd't get Big Picture to work, I just had to manually kill the process). I know this was because of a misconfiguration of my system, but still it's not good for this to happen, as it might confuse less experienced users.

Same problem here, Debian testing 64bit, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650, Driver version 304.48
Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1354745237_client)
Compiled against SDL version 2.0.0 and linked against SDL version 2.0.0
SteamUpdateUI: An X Error occurred
X Error of failed request: GLXUnsupportedPrivateRequest

I had to kill Steam app, after restart runs back in non-big picture mode.

Do you know which library? Or how to solve this problem? Thanks.

I had installed the generic lib32-libgl package, while I actually needed lib32-nvidia-utils (which provides the ELF32 version of the libGL.so library which is normally provided by the NVIDIA drivers). This was on a Chakra Linux system; I don't know the equivalent package names for Debian systems, but I bet they're pretty much the same.

I'm using ubuntu 12.10 unity (64bit) and I also get a black screen, but steam appears 5-10 seconds later. The big picture experience is still a bit choppy at the moment

Also a 64-bit system, and also a crash in Big Picture mode.
I see something and then crash happens at random point. Where should I send logs?

It is like:

I have this aswell. Lubuntu with ATI HD 3470.
However if you wait for a few seconds it starts, but closes down after a while.

Something similar here with a Radeon using the ATI drivers on 64 bit Ubuntu 12.04
Screen goes screwy for a few seconds and then when I get into Big Picture the screen always seems to detect a left arrow. As in I enter the store and the games just cycle through constantly.
The first time I tried the whole thing locked up and I had to Ctl-Shift-Enter to end my user session and log back in.
