Issue Report: Game Previews would be great as HTML5
Since Flash is no longer being actively developed for Linux, the game previews need to be in a different format. HTML5 is one way of doing this. Another would be to incorporate Google Chrome's Pepper APIs, since that version of Flash is the only version still supported under Linux.

I would hope that everyone would be attempting to move away from the total mess that is Flash. +1 for HTML5

I strongly support this, i have enough of pluging-container crashes or flash eating whole ram and cooking CPU and doing all the stuff you just don't want...

There are already webm versions of the trailers so all they have to do is hook them up to the site.

Agreed. Not that I'd really know, but I don't imagine it would that difficult to switch to.

Correct me if I'm wrong but unless you need DRM and all that, er fun stuff... Flash is really no longer needed for these sorts of videos, so +1 for HTML5.

Current situation with Flash is really mess, even on Windows, where IE and Chrome have own Flash plugins but Steam need one more separate Flash plugin.

HTML 5 sounds like the way to go.

I believe you can build webkit (what I think you use for displaying web content) with gstreamer support which should enable HTML5 video
gQuigs 2012年12月4日下午8:40
When going to big picture mode it appears that WebM content already works and we are already in the HTML5 beta for youtube.

Yeah. Flash was old and slow. +1 HTML5

I can only support this suggestion.
Flash is just insecure and outdated.

+1 (as I don't even have any flash plugin installed right now)

+1 I guess that would also fix the problem that people with a 64 bit Linux (the vast majority) can't see any trailers, because the 32 Bit steam won't find the 32 Bit flashplayer unless they somehow downloaded it and put it into some special directory but that doesn't seem to work for everyone. I for one never got it to work with the 32 bit libflashplayer.so no matter where I put it and how often I restarted steam.

+1. I have flash installed on my system and even so the Steam client won't recognize it... might as well fix that bug by moving away from flash :P

Flash is bloated and outdated anyway.

HTML5 all the way. For that fuzzy, natively-supported feeling.

+1 as well. I'm running steam beta on a 64-bit system as well, with no Adobe flash installed (it would be outdated and insecure anyway!).
