Black Screen in TF2 and and "What Valve's people think about this issue?"
Team Fortress 2. Black Screen. Intel GPU = Problem isn't in Steam, Source Engine or in the game, problem is your hardware. This is, i think, the most common answer I read on this forum. But I didn't find at least one regular answer from someone from Valve Linux Team. So I will be glad, when I will see here finally one good view of point from some Valve Team guy on this problem! :)

So, I can run this game on Windows 7 pretty well. I tried (within the realms of possibility) everything and I still have Black Screen. Yes, this problem is (propably) in drivers, but it will be fixed? Who can fix it? Canonical? Intel? Or "You"? Thanks for the answer and I'm sorry, if it sounded cheeky... :) :D

I don't have that problem any more after doing this.

1) Open a terminal and type: sudo nano /usr/bin/steam
2) Add the following lines after "#! /bin/bash":
export LANG=C
export LC_NUMERIC=POSIX
3) Save (CTRL-O + Enter + CTRL-X)
4) Launch Steam

I have Nvidia so I don't now if it will work with intel but you can try.

It's kinda funny because on Windows this GPU support OpenGL 2.1 too and TF2 runs fine!

On windows you are not using the linux driver...

Exactly, So the OpenGL version is not the problem, or unsupported HW.

On windows TF2 using directX, not openGL. Also on pindows driver for your gpu supports directx 10.0.

Ah, ok. You are right, my bad... But still is not primary problem in my GPU - it is possible to run, but it matters on developer so... Basically, we, with GPUs, which support OpenGL <2.1... we can say good bye to Source Engine games? Amazing...
