Same thing here. Problem also occurs when using the game overlay browser.

I have the same issue. I would also add that when watching a video, steam uses much more CPU than firefox.

The latest version seems to have fixed the worst of it.

Steam's performance on the video (and its browser in general) has increased, but the video isn't still *quite* as smooth as it should be while taking up only 15% of my CPU (a bit more than a single 2.0Ghz i7 core) most of the time. In contrast, Chrome seems to use around 20% CPU on this video, but it plays the video entirely smoothly.

Steam use system flash :/
But Adobe no longer provide Flash Player for Linux. ( only security bug fixes)
What about html5 video or pepper flash?

I still experience this issue on the latest version. Flash plugin works normally in Firefox. But Steam freezes while trying to play video. Video starts buffering but freezes very soon and Steam stops reacting for some time. The problem is obviously about flash player, when I remove it from the system anything runs smoothly (except videos, of course...). Also, when trying to play videos, this line appears in console:
(steam:6204): Gdk-WARNING **: XID collision, trouble ahead

I just watched this video directly in steam. No problems for me. Maybe it shows throught youtube html5 player?
DaVince 8 dic 2012, ore 15:11
The problem is obviously about flash player
I don't know, man... Fullscreen the video works smoothly, and the browser inside Steam works a little more slowly (but definitely noticeable) than other web browsers... I think Steam is doing some stuff that might slow it down a bit too much.

ubuntu 12.04 64x with firefox 64x and the last 64x flash avaliable
I also have this problem with fullscreen stuttering. But mine only plays html5 and doesent even use flash. I went to flashes site inside my steam browser and it said i had windows 32 bit -_-.
Any way to point steam to my flash player plugin inside firefox?
