Used Wrong Login Account Info
Call me stupid, whatever is going to work. I installed the beta client and for whatever reason I attempted to log into the account with the wrong Steam credentials. I have two Steam accounts, both reporting to the same email address, since Steam would now allow me to merge the two accounts.

I attempted to reinstall through Package Manager, but it keeps logging me in as the wrong username, advises that I need to log in with the right credentials, but logs me completely out and closes the client before I can log in with the other set of credentials.

I removed the app using terminal, using sudo apt-get remove --purge steam, which removed the application. I re-installed from the downloaded Debian file, but it still remembers the credentials to the wrong authorized account.

Can anyone help me get this fixed, please?

Try
rm -r ~/.local/share/Steam/ ~/.steam ~/.steampath ~/.steampid ~/Steam
Take care before removing directories, mainly last one (this could delete private data).

That didn't work, unfortunately. If this were a Windows environment I'd say that the information is in the registry somewhere, but that's not going to be right at all.

Any other suggestions?!

Ok, suggestion to get accessed files:
strace stream 2>&1 | fgrep open
This will print all opened files during running steam - there should be one with your login info.

Awesome, I'll give that a try before hitting the dialog box which ultimtely closes the GUI completely.

Open steam with steam steam://open/games
Click on Steam > Change User
