Steam Login updated!
Hi people! The steam-login project, that put STEAM BigPicture mode at login screen.

In this new version I Improved compatibility with more games, support for nvidia optimus (if bumblebee and/or Primus is present), restart steam if it crashes, hack to close steam when not using the "hacked version", workaround for TF2 black screen bug and for text fonts bug with some specific fonts settings.

Download it from here:
https://github.com/thor27/steam-login#readme

Test it and post here if you have any issues, and if you know anything about shellscript help me at github!
thanks!

That is a really good project, indeed :)

But may I ask why there is no icon for Ubuntu? I mean... on login screen, when I choose Steam session, there is no Steam icon. I can make one if you need.

If you can make it would be awesome. I don't know exactly how that icon is shown since it's not the icon option in the desktop file. If you make the icon I will try to find it :)

I've already figure out how to change the icon badge, if you can send me the icon image I will update it here!

Take /usr/share/unity-greeter/unknown_badge.png and use it as a template (just a 22x22 white circle).

thanks

Hi, it totally doesn't work for me using Xubuntu 12.04 32 bit (but upgraded to XFCE 4.11). When I try to log in I get only a small window that says that steam had to close and I get to log in screen (system's not steam's)

Since I can't find your e-mail, here it's: http://i45.tinypic.com/2qvgktl.png :)

If it isn't good, I can try to make a new one. Hope it helped.

Do you have steam correctly installed on your system?

Your icon was black and the badge needs to be transparent. I've tried to play around with kolourpaint here and seems to be good (can be better but I'm not good at this image stuff :P)

Look at the screenshot (damn it took some time to get this screenshot done! :P)

it works otherwise so I expect yes. I used for a while steam without beta access, now I have it so when installing steam login I chose the version with beta access.

open your normal session and a terminal and type: steam-de and enter. please paste here what prints on the terminal.
Wow... Steam now becomes a DE.. What could be better if I got a console feel on PC?

Steam login is just a small step toward what I would call a steam-de that is a small step to a steam distribution.

steam-login allows you run steam at login screen

a steam, to be a full DE, would need options to allow you configure your computer, like video, audio, internet connections, internationalization and users at least. All those options should be configurable inside steam and with joysticks, keyboard with and without mouse.

the steam distribution would be a fullset of applications and drivers that is needed to get steam full running and working.

I'm just taking baby-steps here, and searching for people to help me. Some day, if everything goes ok, I might get a Steam Distribution, if someone doesn't get there first :)
