I have the same problem. I'm running 12.04 with Gnome Shell, but an Intel i5 4GB of memory, and running on the Nvidia m520 card via bumblebee/optirun.

Could you elaborate on this please tim? What's the syntax, and what is the repository? (i.e. just a bit worried about is it trustworthy since I have not heard of it?)

Thanks :)

type this in terminal (console):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo command request your password, type it (it will not show).
Here[] you can find more information.
EDIT: corrected commands view.

Careful with this then! For those AMD users who are on Ubuntu, in order to get the legacy drivers working Xorg had to be downgraded. Upgrading Xorg will thus break the fglrx drivers for those of us using the legacy hack. Just thought I would point this out in case anyone doesn't realise. You will know all about it if you have had to jump through the hoops to get AMD hardware legacy drivers working ;)
