Too bad it doesn't cover the HD4000 Series of cards. ;(

Nice to hear about L4D2 improvements. Problem is, no one has it except from Valve and (most likely) AMD (and nvidia?)... Let's see if it does any good for SS3 though.

Very very good news, i think that in the next wave of betatester maybe we will see LFD2 for the first time. SS3 performance increse too?

Maybe it's just me, but Steam just segfaults and doesn't start after installing 12.11b8. Strange...

Edit: Removed 12.11b8, Steam starts fine again. I'll try again with the info posted here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/1/882965737481583042/

Edit2: No go. Deleted the steam.sh file. Steam updated fine then segfaulted again. Back to old drivers.

No not just you, and it actually killed DVD playback on my system as well not sure why on either

Fraid deleting the script file doesn't do jack. Might just have to wait for a update at this point

Why does it feel like AMD users are getting shunned by AMD? I've been using the 12.11 drivers and it's horrible. I can't max out KF, Serious Sam 3 lighting glitches like mad. The Ubuntu desktop screen keeps tearing and this is with a HD6870. Why are Nvidia users getting Linux love, but we're here hoping for measly assistance from AMD. I'm really disappointed... /rant
Looking at your experiences with the Beta 8 driver, I don't think I'll try it yet since it seems even more buggy.

From my experience, Catalyst drivers have always been buggy within Linux. I had to support a Government dept. running lots of Linux systems and experimented with both NVIDIA and ATi/AMD graphics cards and their proprietary drivers (some of the software required OpenGL for 3D modelling). While NVIDIA always "just worked" (I can't remember a single instance of having an issue with the proprietary NVIDIA drivers), we always had various issues with the ATI catalyst drivers, to the point that I ended up recommending to my boss at the time to no longer buy their cards. IMHO the only reason to buy AMD cards these days when running Linux is only due to supporting their open source graphics driver development. Unfortunately it's performance and feature set is still just not quite there to be competitive with the proprietary drivers. They really need to figure out their strategy, and do it _right now_ because it's going to hurt any gamers that run AMD cards in their Linux systems, and in the end, it'll just hurt their sales and consumer sentiment.

@Shooter - Linux Beta! I'm not one to overly defend AMD, just look at my ATI (AMD) thread here, but surely you have to cut them a little slack, all the 12.11 drivers are still betas!

can you run color management on propriety nvidia drivers yet? that has been the reason i have always preferred amd or even intel chips.

Steam segfaults for me as well with 12.11 B8.
Using the Radeon HD 7970 and Ubuntu 12.10 64-bit.

What exactly do you mean with color management? You can play around with brightness, contrast and gamma for each of the Red, Green and Blue Channel in nvidia-settings.

He mean applying color profile (icm). At least before nVidia 302 driver release this doesn't work properly. I didn't check this functional on 302+ yet.

AMD remains the same crap as always, as will concerns drivers for Linux.
