Wish I had a Linux beta account.
Valve, why can't you allow me to get an account. I installed Linux to run games faster, and now I can't even do that as all of my games I purchased off of Steam. I don't want to use Wine because it will not allow me to play HL2. Is there a way I could get an account?

Wait. Or you can install it with a little trick to make it work without a account, but that's .. err.

I believe you will be selected in Valve Time. Just you.

You'll get an account eventually. It's in private beta. You'll get the email when the system selects your account. I don't have access, and well, while that sucks, I'm not whining and complaining. I've also been waiting 4 years to run Steam and games native on Linux.

I use GNU/Linux as a daily driver now, but I still boot into windows when I need to play DOTA 2.

Just be patient. More important, experienced, and development focused people should get it first so that you, the consumer and gamer, can play it with out having bugs constantly.

Why do you boot into windows to play DotA2? It runs almost perfectly in Wine.
The performance improved dramatically with the new NVIDIA drivers.
My only Problem when playing DotA2 is the Steam client freezing permanently.

I'm just hoping they are watching for who has logged in from the Linux version, I have not seen any beta survey or submission page. I have sent a few emails though...

Valve only wants experienced linux users in the beta. If you're not experienced, you're not really wanted right now.

I use Linux for 12 years and I was not called to the beta. I'm not felling bad about this, but just saying that I don't think that Linux experience is the major decision...

One report said 60K submissions for 1K of testers. 'nuff said. :D

Thank you THOR27!

I'm an electrical engineer & have just shy of a decade of *nix experience. Netist, your comment may be true but you'd be hard-pressed to call many of us "not experienced" :P

Oh well, I use linux only for 5 years. And i'm not called either.
(Just another example for people who use it for a long time and haven't called)

does it really matter? srsly? You can play tf2 and ss3 WITHOUT BETA tf2 works pretty much flawlessly, apart from slow load times. If you can't work it out then maybe you need to spend another decade learning linux / on reddit / reading these forums.

Hey, in the time this topic was written you couldn't play TF2 and SS3, couldn't even see the private beta forum... so take it easy :P
