Am I the only one without access?
Signed up for the beta as soon as I could. I have the client but it still kicks me out when I sign on.

Run as

steam steam://store

If using Unity: Right click in the steam laucher icon, choose something like store or library

I don't have access either. Ironic, considering we're all part of the "Steam Beta Access" group on here. Using the above mentioned method of opening steam works for me, but I don't have any playable content in my library, so if I want to play my Steam games, I just use wine for now.

This isn't a "Steam Beta Access" group, rather it's just a "Steam for Linux" group.
Those of us with Beta Access are a select few which have permissions assigned to us to enter/view/post to a hidden forum in this community hub.

I read only about 1 in 60 got access. If you check in the chat of the official steam group, you'll find there's usually nobody there who's actually in the beta, so that number seems about right

Over 60.000 applied for the beta. 1000 were chosen. I thought that only about 13.000 applied because that was the member count at that time. The other 50.000 should join the group too. It would make the Linux Group one of the largest official HUBs.

this works to gain access to steam, but not to download and play your games.

how does one go about gaining access to this 'elite' group?

I suggest you do some research on your own and read news and announcements for this group. It is all explained there.

I've been invited to the beta, today 5000 new persons were invited and the client is still saying that my account is not for beta testing.

You sure you were invited? You don't have Steam for Linux on your account.

So the invitation is only for the linux beta mailing list and linux beta discussion forum (as read only)? that is senseless.

No, the invitation is for official access to the beta, been on the mailing list, and "full" access to the "limited beta" discussion forum.

That's my point, I received an email with the subject "Welcome to the "Steamlinuxbeta" mailing list" with some links, a mailing list password, etc.

I didn't have a steam account so I opened one with the same email account that is subscribed to the mailing list and followed the link for getting started in the invitation email, didn't see a invitation code or anything alike, just this forum.

Anyway, is just for reporting if this is a mistake or a system bug, really not complaining.

Definitively sounds like a bug. I'd email the valve Linux team and explain that you didn't have an account before receiving the beta email. I'm assuming you never filled out the survey and expressed your interest via the Linux blog/email, correct?
