Steam for Linux

Steam for Linux

HOWTO: make Defcon work in Steam for Linux
Defcon is available in Steam for Linux but on installation it downloads nothing (../SteamApps/Common/Defcon folder is empty).
Here is howto.
1. Download package from http://www.introversion.co.uk/defcon/downloads/linux.html

2. Open package with archive manager and extract files from ./usr/local/games/defcon in RPM or DEB package to ~/Steam/SteamApps/common/Defcon

3. Create in Defcon directory file "run_steam.sh"

4. Open it and paste this
#!/bin/sh

# Steam claims they are going to put us in the app directory.

if []; then
./defcon.bin.x86_64
else
./defcon.bin.x86
fi

5. Save this file and make it executable.

6. {HARDEST PART}

6.1. Launch Steam client for Windows or Mac (wined)
6.2 Launch Defcon
6.3 Go to Options -> Authentication and write the code you'll see.

7. Launch Steam for Linux, launch Defcon.

8. Enter the code you wrote.

9. Play

LOL.
hi! great tutorial!
but the bash code has a small mistake, here's the right way:

if []; then

you should use only one = sign, otherwise it return an error.
cheers!

Maybe. I copypasted this part from Darwinia launch script.
Thanks shished. Good work !

Confirmed I got this going fine in Ubuntu 12.10 as per above instructions.

Downloaded the 32 bit Debian defcon_1.6-1_i386.deb

My steam path was however ~/home/"user"/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common/Defcon

"insert your username"

also just used the below for my Ubuntu version of "run_steam.sh"

#!/bin/sh

# Steam claims they are going to put us in the app directory.

./defcon.bin.x86

fi

Popped my CD Key in : I already had a legit key from a release CD I'd previously purchased. Thus negating the whole Wine install steps 6.1, 6.2, 6.3

Pitty there isn't a "linux" demo for this enabled in steam ;)

Running like a charm

:)

There is menu 'Authentication' in options.
Step 6 is way easier if you bought your game in a Humble Bundle :)
