Steam for Linux

Intel Graphics HD3000/4000 and TF2 Black screen
SOLUTION:
1.Open in gedit file /usr/bin/steam as root
2.Add this line after "#! /bin/bash"
export LANG=C
3. Save the file.

Copied this post to Limited Beta thread.
Black screen appears after launching TF2. I can hear Valve intro but after that nothing happened.
Seems like other users have same issue.

You need to get a better computer - currently your intel graphics card will NOT run it, no matter what you do. Your Intel card does not support a version of OpenGL past 1.5, which TF2 requires to run. Sorry :(
Thank you for your response!

Here is a part of Glxinfo output:
OpenGL version string: 3.0 Mesa 9.0
Does it mean that my OpenGl version is 3.0?
Seems like a driver issue to me, since no extensions are availalable.
EDIT Scratch whats above, didnt read the output too well before commenting
Might be their implementation though.. Did you try the xf86 driver?

Intel HD 4000 most certainly will run TF2 like the badass that card is! There is a huge difference between HD 3000 and 4000.

Have you installed driver updates from x-swat ppa?
@[56964] Haikarainen
Do you mean libxcb-xf86dri?
@liamdawe
Yep. I installed all updates from x-swat ppa.

Does anybody else have same problem? Should I post this issue to Limited Beta thread?
I have an HD4000 but I can't install TF2. Sorry, I can't test it (always server busy).

From the error it is clear that you dont have got s2tc/s3tc. You need that for 32 bit, but you could install it for 64 bit as well. Try (after sudo -i):
apt-get --yes install libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0;test `uname -m`! = x86_64! && dpkg --add-architecture i386 && apt-get --yes install libtxc-dxtn-s2tc0:i386

I also have the same problem with an Intel i3-2310M /w Intel HD3000 (Ubuntu 12.04 x86_64) .
I tried to use the x swat Drivers and xorg-edgers drivers.

Played here on Intel HD3000 on Linux and worked fine after doing this: http://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/0/882966056473048081/
