Flashplayer on 64bit
As you may have noticed there are some problems when you are using a 64bit system & flashplayer. The current 32bit only Beta requires a 32bit Flashplayer for its browser, but it's still just looking at some default generic directories. So here we go:

As far as 'strings' tells me there are 3 directories where Steam is searching for the Flash plugin:
/usr/lib/browser-plugins
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
/usr/lib/firefox/plugins
Currently working workaround: Pick one of the 3 that does not exist and create it, then simply put the 32bit libflashplayer.so in there - every browser should by default skip incompatible files when searching for the plugin, so this shouldn't cause any problems with other 64bit programs that may try to load the Flash plugin.

it sort of works but it doesn't for me with intel graphics
the browser freezes

and what file do u put in ? all or just kcm_adobe_flash_player.so ?

Just copy libflashplayer.so to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/

I'm on 32bit Ubuntu, but having video issues watching game trailers in Steam. They are very jumpy. However videos work fine when watching the same page through firefox.

Doing a google search hit this discussion.

Letalis, what was your strings command?

I've used it on
~/Steam/ubuntu12_32/steam
/usr/bin/steam
and
~/Steam/steam.sh

and grep for flash or plug throws up nothing.

/usr/lib/mozzila/plugins/ didn't have libflashplayer.so in it at all (in spite of installing restricted extras)

Result of using the 32bits flashplayer for me : crash

Without Flash life is nicer.

Agree whole heartedly flash is evil, but would be nice to get steam videos working fine.

32bit Flash in /usr/lib/browser-plugins with ia32-libs installed and it works a treat. However it really shouldn't be necessary to do this. If your application is going to require certain versions of a specific library it should be statically linked and included. Otherwise provide the mechanisms to let the system handle things for you.

Really they could/should switch everything to HTML5 video in the future, however.

It is also possible to use MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH and point to another dir. Basically valve could ship a newer flash like google as they use chrome as base - currently it seem it can only use the NSAPI plugin but not a PPAPI one (extracted from google chrome 32 bit).

There's more to Steam than just the binary itself, there are several libraries that are being used, one of the is the Chromium component (-> libcef.so), which is the one that's trying to load the plugin. I don't know what exactly I grep'd for, eventually just 'plugin'.

I'd guess the bad performance compared to full browsers comes from Steam still having a rather inefficiently drawn GUI.

You can also put libflashplayer.so in ~/Steam/ubuntu12_32/plugins/ . It's a bit cleaner :)
