[BUG] Dropdown menu hang
I'm not "officially" in the beta, but while using the chat functionality and such, I've come across a bug. Whenever I click to open a dropdown menu ("Steam", "View", etc., also the little arrows beside friends in the friends list), there seems to be a random chance that the menu will come up transparent and Steam will freeze (sometimes crash, sometimes not). This happens 100% of the time for me with the "Friends" menu and the arrow by my name in the friends list.

I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 with Unity.

EDIT: Removed the parts of my post about needing to reinstall/reboot. That was my bad.

How'd you get around the modal dialog that pops up saying that your account is Unauthorized for the beta? I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 with Unity too, so I could test.

On my system, I hit "OK" the first time which closed Steam, but when I launched it again I simply didn't see that dialog anymore. I didn't do anything special to dismiss it or try to work around it.

I got in by going to one of my group's community pages in my browser and clicking on the open group chat button. It opens up the group chat in Steam and bypasses the beta dialog.

This happens with me sometimes too, except that it's just random menus. I'm running steam on Ubuntu 12.10 64 bit. In my case, if I kill steam using the "kill" command, I can start it again without any problems.
Okay, looks like the reinstall/reboot stuff was my bad. Steam's process is actually called "MainThrd", running inside of "steam.sh". When I was killing steam.sh, or xkilling the Steam window, it wasn't ending MainThrd, so a new instance would fail to start, seeing it as already running.
