TF2 is really easy to run in wine 1.5. It's not perfect, but it does an admirable job. Strange that you couldn't get it going.

I think that this closed beta will only have Left 4 Dead 2, but it's very possible that the open beta will have TF2 and other Valve games in it, sometime in 2013

The initial Steam Linux Beta will include TF2

The TF2 beta does have some linux native files. Albeit, it doesn't launch, but it's there nonetheless.

That's fantastic !!! One more option !! is there some other game that will also participate in the initial Beta that you can share with us the info ?

Can we participate in L4D2 and TF2 beta test or can we only select one of those or is up to Valve to choose who of us participate in what game beta ?

Awesome!!!!

Well... so these are the only games for the beta or we'll be able to see also some third-party game wich has been ported to Linux already?

I managed to run TF2 fine on Ubuntu. But because it uses wine to run...well it runs at less than 10 fps, glitchy, and the fonts are incorrect. Hopefully it will run better when steam is officially launched for linux.

I stopped using TF2 in wine after just a few hours, the bugs and performance issues did it in. 20fps on high with texture errors and crashes in unacceptable when I can reach ~140 on windows 8 with the same settings with no texture errors and very rarely does a crash happen.

Hopefully, they fixed the performance problems that the Mac port had. it was half as fast on the same computer(OSX86 [10.6.8]). supposedly the Linux version will be up to par with the Windows one this time around.

I wand TF2 too! It's my favorite game actually.
What else will be in the beta package?

I am definitely looking forward to TF2 in Ubuntu. The only reason I haven't made my primary OS a linux distro is because I have to boot back to Windows to get the performance I want in TF2.

Beta will include Portal, TF2 and Serious Sam 3 but not L4D2 according to this post and the CDR[cdr.thebronasium.com].
