check oslist and state!
Provided the company supports and maintains it, I think it's a Win/Win.
the mac os version uses wineskin its not a native port neather..
that in itself is ok... So long as new games dont revert to a wine bottle... Older games where is if was like u said packaged like dosbox a ok... Most of the comapnies that buy the rights to said games dont get the source so...
its not native just checked it on my mac its just neatly packaged wine bottle.. just like how guild wars 2 cough is for mac...
I think it comes down to how you define a "port". I've seen how some think that only a native port is a port, but I don't share this view.
For me it's about functionality. If a game is ported to another platform and then perfectly works there, why bother if it uses Wine or not?
Allow one Wine game and we will play everything in Wine because the other developers will follow. Don't get me wrong. Everything should be native.
I think you're overly dramatic on this one. Don't forget what game we're talking about here. System Shock 2 is a very special case.
Check out Transgaming which makes ports for OSX using pretty much Wine (Cider is based on wine). They made ports for Ubisoft, EA, Activision etc.
