Wow, the game looks really engaging. I don't see any sources of a Linux release on their website.

Really its going to be pay to play? LIES LIES LIES, they did this in HON then went to free to play and screwed over the people who payed. First dota clone next LoL clone. Don't support these guys.

Hon is a Dota 1 clone, it tries to not be much different. They did change some names and added a few heroes, but that's about it. LoL is trying to appeal to a much larger audience with a minimal budget(though they have large budgets right now) and Dota 2 is trying to be Dota with better graphics.

First thing that came to my mind: League of Legends Clone. Nice to read that it is not only me.
My favourite part:
"So what is so special about Strife?"
-"We already did a Moba game!"
If this answer isn't a reason to instant buy the game. xD

At least they're going to provide a Linux port; that will surely be a contestant to LoL which doesn't have a Linux port. Surely that would raise our ire to go for Strife instead?

Yes its the plan :-)

Great to see more games coming out with Linux support. League of Legends still doesn't have it, yet they have Mac support.

Personally though since Dota 2 has had Linux support for a long time now (and is my go-to game) I am not very excited for Smite. Sorry, I meant to say Strife. It looks way too much like League and way too casual, cartoony, etc. Not interested, but cool to see, and +1 for supporting Linux!

I don't know all the details, but you are correct in that HoN was once buy to play and later became free to play, and also true that HoN was a pretty blatant ripoff of the WC3 mod DotA.

Aeon of Strife, the Starcraft mod, was not even PVP. So I have a hard time agreeing that it is the true originator of the genre. Defense of the Ancients (the Warcraft III mod aka DotA aka Dota 1) was the first game of the genre, IMO. It may have been inspired by AoS, but it has enough originality of its own to justify calling it the first of its own genre, I think.
Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) is a pretty poor description for games like LoL or Dota though. I think Action RTS is better. MOBA is a term Riot invented and popularized due to how much money is backing them (see: Tencent Holdings).

I've played it (still play it from time to time), it's not that bad, but is soo limited. just a few champs.. nothing special than other moba's only that is easyer than most moba's out there.

In other words, waiting for LoL on Linux :)

You can play dota 2 natively or use wine, it's not an elegant solution but it works.

LoL is one of the games that I regret the most for dedicating my time to it and playing it. Dota 2 on the other hand is a pretty decent game with a decent community so far.

And concerning the topic, knowing that a game will be released for Linux is always good news!
