Steam Issues - "Unable to connect to the Steam Network"
Hey, i just installed steam on my Debian jessie amd64 through
$sudo apt-get install steam
. Everything worked fine. By executing
$steam
the software downloaded about 160mb and updated steam. Then I got the login screen with three options. I can create a new account, register it to steam but the software is not able to connect to steam servers. If i try to use an existing account or set steam to online mode i got the error:
Unable to connect to the Steam network. [...]

Does anyone have an Idea how this could happen? Under WinXP it works, Steam servers are up, i can connect with every other piece of software to internet, no firewall setup ... thx to all :D

edit: last run

If you plan to install Steam on 64bit Debian I recommend (as root):

# dpkg --add-architecture i386
# aptitude update

Then if you're using NVIDIA:

#aptitude install libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386

or AMD: #aptitude install libgl1-fglrx-glx:i386
or Intel: aptitude install libgl1-mesa-glx:i386

PS: These above may vary based on the driver version, so research on that.

Then #aptitude install steam:i386

thx, but your answer is out of topic. drivers had been installed and multiarch was activated before i run "apt-get install steam". i can start steam, create new accounts via steam but i'm unable to login.
