Steam closes everytime I download a game.
Title says it all. Everytime I try to download a game (e.g. L4D2, TF2..) it automatically closes before even reaching 1%, no errors, no warnings, nothing, it's just closes.
System Spec:
openSUSE 12.3 x86_64
nVidia GTX 260 + nVidia driver 325.08
KDE 4.10.5
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300
4Gb DDR3 1333MHZ RAM

Is there any chance that your hard drive might be full or Steam doesn't have enough permissions for write access?

I did have the "close without any notification" issue on my Linux mint install.. I did some research and found that Steam in itself is 32 bit, but on an 64 bit OS it can not properly display some stuff related to Adobe Flash Player. Can it be, that you think it is related to your download, but maybe it's just starts some advertising and it can't do it properly.. Or you start downloading and click on some other tabs on Steam and it close? Can you just confirm that if you surf the Steam with Firefox, without running Steam on the OS, that some Statistics for example show up, but if you see the same page when running Steam and it says you need Adobe Flash Player to see this.. the link below explains the issue, but it is somewhat dated:

No, it can't be that because there's no advertising, I lauch steam, games library section opens up, and it closes after 5 seconds unless I pause the updating for L4D2\TF2 (My current games)

I've had this issue, the way I ended up fixing it was decently simple (although it may be different for you, just trying to help): Make sure you are on the right internet speed settings (view > settings > downloads), make sure the in that tab that you don't have a limit to downloads as well. After that I closed Steam, opened up my steam folder and changed clientregistry.blob to clientregistry.bloborig (I don't like to delete the files) and reopened steam, forcing it to redownload that file.

That helped me, I bid you luck with that fix working for you as well!

Run Steam from a terminal and paste its output as it log why it has closed unexpectedly.
