Actually Rochard is on a week long deal as well, I think we might see L4D2 this week!

One thing that may be a factor is how satisfied Valve are with debugging their existing Source games (TF2, CS:S). Someone mentioned they might be waiting to release L4D2 when they're positive it will run smoothly for everyone (or as best as possible for most).

Oh man I really wanted to wait for the actual Linux release before I bought the game, but the deal may be too good to pass up. Hopefully it will launch in time for me to take advantage of the special.

If anything, I'd take the fact that it's on sale to indicate that it's /not/ going to be released for Linux soon (as in, within the next few weeks), since they'd have otherwise held off with the sale for the Linux release.

/bummer, since it's the game I play the most.

Linux users still can buy it now. And play on Linux. So problem is not here.
