You can speed up the download by copying the Windows TF2 files to your Linux, or point Steam at them. Steam should then just download the other files it needs. The directory in Linux is ~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/, to get there via the file manager you'll need to enable 'Show Hidden Files' or just press Ctrl + H.
Also, a Wubi install isn't the best way to go, your probably going to run into more problems.
I'm not entirely sure if I want one of these, actually. I guess I just got a little overconfident at the thought of selling one of these for the Earbuds and Max's Heads some people have been envisioning it to be worth. If I don't get one (which is looking likely), it'll still be a win for me, because I'll have gotten experience with a new operating system that I really like, and I'll have added some more technical knowlege to my daily life on the computer.
So yeah, I'm not very worried.
I recomend that, if you want to use Linux, you may give Ubuntu more than 20GB. If later you want to download a DVD, you could need some space. To use a game files you need the binaries and libraries too, and these are unique to your system. I don´t know how achieve this TF2 things to use the common-SO files, and this sounds extremely hard for a Linux newbie ;)
But good luck, of course. If you are interested on Linux, you must know that some year may be necesary to use it at advanced-user-level ;)
