Steam for Linux

Steam breaks on last update
Since the last update, starting Steam gives me a terminal window telling me:
Steam needs to install these additional packages: steam-launcher Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package steam-launcher Press return to continue:

This package is not in the repo and thus cannot be installed. I can't find it anywhere. Does anyone else notice this?

I can confirm the same thing, sadly. No games soon, I guess :(
I can also confirm this on my Ubuntu 12.04 install.
If you really want to follow that advice, note that userdata should be kept, too. It contains screenshots and saves, sometimes deleting it may lead to losing all the save data.
same error :( i want to plaaaay!! :D
I can confirm that L | 7's solution works perfectly. Thanks for the help! :)

Go to your home folder, press ctrl+H to see hidden files, open the steam shortcut, select everything but the SteamApps folder and delete. Launch steam again and click Reinstall. This fixed it for me while keeping my downloaded games.
This did fix it for me.
Exactly the same for me. I uninstalled and now can't reinstall as can't find steam-launcher :(
