Radeon 6700, TF2 = 15 fps
Tried playing TF2 under Ubuntu x64 (fresh install), graphics turned down i only get 15 fps.

I wish i had something positive or optimistic to say.

I dont expect to be playing games under linux for a few years yet.

May want to consider upgrading your video card. I'm running the 6950 and TF2 is smooth under Ubuntu.

I think you will need to install the proprietary drivers (updated) from ubuntu's repositories, otherwise you'll have poor performance
Do you use fglrx or "open source driver"?

You need to install amd drivers, you are probably currently using the open source ones which are installed by default.
What you should do is open a terminal and run this command:
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-`uname -r`

then you should open the software updater and click on settings, under the additional drivers tab install the most recent drivers. All that's left to do then is doing a reboot.

As others have stated the Open Source drivers that are normally installed by Default will not get the job done.

If you aren't already using them install the propritory ones.

yes i am using open source drivers, i will probably give the proprietary ones a try.

Disappointing the open source drivers aren't up to scratch after so many years of them struggling to make it. Third party drivers will be a continual pain for users, they never integrate with distributions nicely.

Making users dependent on 3rd party proprietary drivers on an otherwise open source platform is bad karma IMO.

I think it's pretty impressing that it's almost playable with open source drivers on a card that is only a few years old.
