Steam for Linux

Recording software suggestions?
I tried using glc to record steam game, to no avail. Running "glc-capture steam://run/[app]" won't run, and "glc-capture steam steam://run/[app]" immediately returns to prompt, and runs game afterwards.
Is there any good drop-in replacement for fraps? I want something that hooks into OpenGL apps (games) just like fraps. I fear recordmydesktop might cause framedrops, among other issues, since it isn't really designed for games.

I used gtk-recordmydesktop once. Worked well.
Gamecaster might the thing you are looking for: http://www.ubuntuvibes.com/2012/10/gamecaster-updated-for-ubuntu-1210.html It is very much experimental though.
There is also Vokoscreen, which doesn't hook into OpenGL but might still be worth a try: http://www.ubuntuvibes.com/2013/02/vokoscreen-new-screencasting-tool-for.html
Gamecaster fails to start on 13.04 and haven't found a solution thus far, but being glc-based, I'd expect the same behaviour.
Also, I was wondering how to record sound as well (both output and input). I tried gtk-recordmydesktop, ffmpeg, avconv, and none of them captured audio. I tried glc with a non-steam version of Super Meat Bot and it did capture audio nicely.
I have found by far the best solution is GLC. The biggest thing with GLC is it will NOT work with the "Steam In-Game Community" overlay, as this uses the same techniques as GLC to read the input and GLC will not work.

Some games that are not strictly ALSA based will need the -j flag for the audio. I have not yet figured out how to record input consistently (had it work once, then it wouldn't work again, this might be due to my HW), but you just need to specify the device to record with -a device, rate, channels (ex: -a hw:0,44100,2) Note the hw:0 can't do hw:0,1 for sub-devices, this is a bug with GLC and is reported (https://github.com/nullkey/glc/issues/31).

I am uploading one of my videos of CS 1.6, will be available at: http://youtu.be/bZNnnWXXzKM

If you need any help with running GLC, just ask me on here and I'll do my best to assist.

Edit: Seems that video I uploaded lost most of its video, not 100% sure why that happened, but its probably due to alt-tabing out of the game or due to steam notifications popping up (this turns my whole screen green).

Try removing the -s and using the <Shift>F8 hotkey to start once your ingame. Also, your command seems off (glc-capture-o should be glc-capture -o, with a space).

I said in my first post this doesn't work. It drops immediately back to prompt.
Can you write a guide, tutorial on something ? Many people out there want to record their Steam gaming experience.

Probably one of those discussions should be made sticky! :)

I tried everything, all tested. Whether glc-capture, ffmpeg, istanbul, recordmydesktop ... This saves not only my desktop and the game is either a black screen, or you just see the desktop background. The only way to save the game is played in windowed mode. In this case, it does not work but not full screen.
Try "Kazam Screencast", it's very good.
Kazam dont work on my computer :(
try to check in game option

" Fullscreen (windows ) " lot of game integrate it now and you can capture.
I worked a lot with ffmpeg to understand its use. Now I can use it without looking at the tutorials and create my own lines. But the problem is still present. I had to compile the git version because it provided in the AUR for ArchLinux has a bug. I still can not record in full screen, the worse it is not serious. I can make videos in windowed mode and it will prove that it is possible to play on Linux.

My second problem is the sound. It does not register. I have a bunch of tests and it does not want. I tried to sound recorded from my webcam, it works.

My sound card is hw: 0,0.

I also have another problem, the video is weird. I recorded 30 minutes but the final file is accelerated and takes only 3min!

Here's what I use:

ffmpeg-f alsa-ac 2-i hw: 0,0-f-s x11grab 1280x1024-r 25-i: 0.0 video-game-the-best-is-linux.mp4
@DudeAmI

When I turn the Steam Overlay off I can't launch Gmod even without GLC
