Also what is your output after typing fglrxinfo
I got those errors too: i did forget to run aticonfig --initial -f to create me a new xorg.conf
aticonfig --initial -f
i get
aticonfig: No supported adapters detected
and fglrxinfo gives
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 153 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
Serial number of failed request: 12
Current serial number in output stream: 12
dont really know what to do with this information.
the problem is that in step 5. i don't know what to do because there were always only the normal driver listed and not several like in the screenshot above.
i used the method that is linked there which is described as alternative version. this alternative version installes the newest beta driver 13.2
http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/rn_ln_cat13-2_beta.aspx
and to your last question, steam doesn't give any output at all when just clicked on the desktop. nothing happens. only when started trough the terminal console the error messages posted above are the output.
sudo sh /usr/share/ati/fglrx-uninstall.sh
sudo apt-get remove --purge fglrx fglrx_* fglrx-amdcccle* fglrx-dev*
before
0) Remove / purge old fglrx stuff
1) Download latest driver: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx
2) Unzip the package
3) sudo chmod a+rwx unziped-package.run
4) sudo ./ati-driver-installer-xxxxx-x86.x86_64
5) sudo aticonfig --initial -f
6) reboot
7) run an post fglrxinfo
yay.
don't know why this is not posted on the wiki.
thanks for all the responses and the help.
It seems to be a problem because 'glxCreateConrtext ubuntu' comes up with 'steam doesn't run because...' the symbol is not found; but glxgears runs... so what is the fix? I think it's something steam is doing.. I had this issue; my application would not run, but glxgears would; what's the difference? I was loading the part that loaded the libary with dlopen() with a flag of RTLD_PRIVATE instead of RTLD_GLOBAL. Once I change the line to load the core system with GLOBAL everything worked. DOn't know where bug reports go, and I wouldn't run steam on linux....
