How are we doing?
We'd like to get feedback on how well Steam is working for you!

If you've tried it and it didn't work, please try the latest version and report any issues on GitHub for tracking:
https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues?state=open

If Steam doesn't start, or any games don't start, please report it immediately, and post any output from steam if you've run it from the command line.

If Steam does work well and you love it, just reply to this thread. We'd like to hear that too!

Thanks everyone for helping make Steam for Linux great!

It works perfectly for me. i have tried it on Ubuntu 12.04 x86 and x64/12.10 x86 and x64 and I'm currently on 13.04 x64 daily and it works wonderful. I used to have problems with using in game voice, it would make the game and the steam client crash, It seems to be fixed now. Also tried on Linux Mint 13/14 x86 and x64 and I had no troubles at all. My system specs are as follows .

Yes. More please. The Steam for Linux Client is getting better and better. It isn't perfect and there are still hurdles but playing TF2 in Lnux at 60fps is all kinds of awesome.

EDIT: Ubuntu 12.10 (64bit) on a Lenovo Thinkpad w701ds.

I have two major issues:
1) with Steam (fully updated), can't enter Big Picture since when I click on it Steam crashes and gets a segmentation fault.
2) Anomaly Warzone Earth crashes and hangs the system with AMD 64bit drivers.

PC: intel i3-2100, 8gb ram, amd hd6770, Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 64bit (fully updated) w/ kernel 3.5

I'm using Linux füor 14 years now. I really appreciate what you're doing for the system. The beta version works very well for me (with some little stumbling blocks). I'm looking forward for many more games for Limux. And I hope that Debian will be officially supported, after all it's the base of Ubuntu.

You're doing very well!

Love what you're doing so far - working well here. I've been using Linux primarily for 15 years or so, and never thought I'd see the day. ;)

I was curious how far back in the vault you would go with ports, and was really excited to see Half-life 1 ported - can't wait for L4D2 and the Portal series.

I feel a bit lost as to how to effectively participate in bug finding. I think we would benefit from a faq that points us in the right directions (and contains bookmark links for us), for instance,

In the guides section, why not put a post in there called (getting started testing) that just links straight to the github readme. That would have helped me out tremendously as that I didn't know whether to let my OS DL GPU drivers, or if I should manually check for linux drivers from the vendor. (Btw, would it be possible to get the .deb package installer to identify whether the system has the latest drivers or not? Would this make for a good 'issue' to be submitted to github, or does it belong in suggestions here on this forum? Maybe this tangent helps explain some of the confusion of newcomers.)

Also, I encounter glitches that don't directly have to do with Steam, but rather the GPU and Ubuntu. But I'm not exactly sure if I should report that to Ubuntu or ATI, so I've kinda just been keeping it on my mind. I think we should encourage bug spotters to assist Ubuntu and vendors directly where applicable.

If there's an IRC channel around too, that might be nice where new testers can make sure they're no "doing it wrong" when they're spotting issues.

A guide to debugging problems independently and pulling out relevant crash data would be nice too. E.G. "...if you're having trouble even getting steam to run, you can double check that your GPU supports 3D with a program called `glxgears`. perform: `sudo apt-get install mesa-utils` to install and then type `glxgears`"

I love it! Thank you for providing Steam for Linux! I realize that this is just a stepping stone for you guys since Linux support stems from your Hardware plans but regardless, you could have jumped straight to the Piston Plans without giving us this in between.

Similar to how Nvidia jumped to Tegra powered Android tablets without giving Ubuntu users proper driver support. Which of course all changed when the all mighty Valve decided to jump to linux.

In any case, i'm just waiting on the latest tittles such as CS:GO & Dota 2 and even Portal II. After that, Linux is set for gaming and I don't care what anyone else says.

Everything you need to know is here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux
Also even if you think that some bug may not be caused by Steam itself, file a bug report (ofc use search option first to avoid duplicates) and let Valve guys decide :)
Tho Steam for Linux IRC would be awesome.

Valve, keep up the good work!

Thanks, Sam. The new icon for notification tray doesn't resize very well is the only bug I see so far with new version. My laptop is rocking triple head, and some of the games support it the layout already. ;)

I love the work so far, this is the best think since I switched to Linux! I just have had some problems adding some of my humble bundle games, I will get specific and file a bug on git-hub.
Still you guys are awesome, good to have Steam back without having to boot into that other OS.
