Steam integration with cinnamon
I think it would be great if steam was integrated with cinnamon and we could see notifications from steam with cinnamon notifications.

it'd also be nice if I didn't have to run tf2 in windowed mode

Out of curiousity, what is preventing you from running tf2 in full-screen mode? I'm doing so on my rig. I suspect a bunch of people are. Does TF2 throw out an error or something when you do?

This would be great, yes. Cinnamon's so much better than Unity.
Not to mention a LOT of users at the moment don't conform to one wm.

I'm using Fullscreen with Cinnamon with no problems (I think it's using Windowed Fullscreen but it doesn't matter, I actually prefer it).

That having been said, I'd prefer that Steam used one of the native linux notification stacks... but that may be asking too much... they use a custom notification engine on OS X and Windows and probably prefer it that way.

On the other hand... I really hate the stupid task tray icon. In Cinnamon the window is already in my window list, so there's no point in having the icon as well. It's just annoying.

Oh well, the latest steam update broke stuff and I have to run with STEAM_RUNTIME=0 anyway now.... Probably ought to report that...

If you close the open steam window you'll have a hard time accessing steam again since it minimizes to tray and doesn't exit once you close the window so a tray icon makes sense. It's exactly like on Windows.

Not in Cinnamon for me. If I "X" the window it just minimizes itself, so it's redundant... I ALWAYS have the window in the taskbar AND the icon.

Though maybe this is changed in the new STEAM_RUNTIME that is broken on my fairly standard 12.10 install..........

OT: Just wanted to say thank you for mentioning Cinnamon. I hadn't used it...until about an hour ago. Learning something new is always fun. Thank you. :)

Thing is, Cinnamon is hardly anything new. :P It's undoubtedly Windows-ish. But with WAY more customization.
But nothing wrong with a tried-and-true UI.

Cinnamon IS one of the best (if not THE best) wm out there.

It was new to me but then I've been staring at the old staples (GNOME, KDE, xfce, etc.) for too long.

I feel sort of bad for changing the "Menu" text in Cinnamon to "Start".
The customization of Cinnamon, though, is one of its bug strong points. It has a bright future ahead of it.
