Any problems running without PulseAudio?
I read a thread earlier that implied that people were having issues running Steam for Linux when they had PulseAudio disabled or not installed. I need to disable PulseAudio because if I leave it enabled, Skype 4.1 for Linux turns into a white noise mess, and I use Skype for work stuff.

So, are there any problems with running Steam on a bare-ALSA setup, and if so, are there known ways to work around them?

Just to clarify, I'm still downloading the initial update, so I haven't run into any problems myself yet, just polling for everyone else's experiences.

I'm running the Steam client with Alsa/kmix on Arch/KDE. No problems so far on my end.

I'm running bare ALSA on Linux Mint 14 (DE: Cinnamon), and yeah, after making this thread Steam finished updating and I decided to check the "Voice" tab in preferences just as a test. After a few minutes spent trying to find out which device is my mic (a USB webcam that I use as a desktop mic >.> yeah, I'm cheap) which wasn't Steam's fault but the fact that there are so many devices listed by ALSA on my system, it seems to be working fine.
