Steam beta on linux can't update (Issue solved)

Hi all

I wanted to install steam beta on my linuxOS but I had a problem, it couldn't update after install. It just stopped at 76.000kb and after 2 or 3 minutes update restart and stop at 76.000kb again...
This is the message "SteamUpdater: Error: Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again."

I just tested everything in my pc and I had no connection problems like mistakes at firewall configuration.

Then searching some forums and websites, I found this solution, it's just a weird DNS related issue.

After doing some digging in wireshark I found out that my DNS server was giving me two IP addresses for media.steampowered.com, 87.248.210.253 and 87.248.210.254. For some reason, for certain http requests the domain was always resolving to the latter. I found that I couldn't connect (not even ping) the .245 address, so I added the first IP (which I could connect to) to my /etc/hosts file for media.steampowered.com, and the steam client's update/downloader feature started working successfully.

I have a problem with updater.
I'm on Fedora 18 64bit

SteamUpdater: Error: Download of package (public_all) failed after 935 bytes (200).
SteamUpdater: Error: Steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again.

I tried with wireshark to find something like you, but nothing solve my problem. I have put this 206.167.164.6 media.steampowered.com
69.164.20.246 valve.vo.llnwd.net
in my /etc/host
But I still get the same error.

In case this helps others: I had the same problem as the first person described, did a DNS lookup (host media.streampowered.com) then pinged both IPs, of which only one worked. added that one to /etc/hosts, restarted DNS cache. after that steam would update and started without problems. Thx for the tip.
