I think it is related to how the program uses your foreign keyboard layout. It gives me problems on the British English layout. Its native layout is American English. These problems only occurred while playing games.
Yes. Copying your details from other places might work. Tell the program to remember you, so you don't have to do it again.

Thank you for your information. I've got the same problem as ^8Madman. The issue occurs after last update. Steam will not respond to keyboard input since the Steam login screen appears... not only occuring while playing games.
The previous post shows that someone had been told that this issue is related to a bug between iBus and Steam client, but it won't work even if uninstalled ibus and reinstall Steam.
Hope Steam team fix it soon.

export LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8" && steam
Thank you,works pretty well.
env LC_CTYPE="en_US.UTF-8" steam
and see how that goes, whether it will work for the games too? Notice that I used "env" instead of "export", and there is no &&.
Alternatively, as a last resort, you could make a seperate logon just for gaming, with the locale set to American English. But that would be very inconvenient.
