id games with Linux ports

I own a fair number of id games which were released with Linux ports. For example; Doom 3, Quake, Quake 2, Quake 3 Arena and Quake 4. Are there Plans for bringing these games to Steam for Linux? If so, is there an estimate for when they could be coming to Steam for Linux?

I asked the same question here when the Beta began. People responded that id is no longer interested in Linux (the guy who used to do the Linux ports left the company), as mentioned by John Carmack in an interview.

I am not satisfied with that answer, though. Surely id software can spend a small amount of time and polish their ports, given that 90% of the work has already been done. I think they're just waiting for something.

If you really want to know, the people to ask are id software themselves. Just shoot them an email, and then post the response here so everyone will see it.

If they aren't interested in Linux now, I think they will be soon, seeing what other companies are saying.

I have quake 4 added as a non-steam game with data files and cd key from the game purchased through steam (you might have to install the game through WINE first to access the files and the key though). There aren't steam achievements for those games so no big deal. Also, to make quake 4 work with audio in Ubuntu 12.04 (also applies to ddom 3) you have to make a launcher with the following command: "pasuspender /usr/local/games/quake4/quake4 +set s_alsa_pcm plughw:0".

Hello. You actually can bind linux versions of id games to steam so they will be shown like "In Game", not "Non-steam game". Since id games are opensource you can add connection to steam and recompile it. I've just made it with quake 2.

Probably not gonna happen. There's a lot of older games that supported Linux. The ID games, The Unreal series up to UT2K4, NWN 1 & 2, and some others. I'd like to see them brought to the Linux side of Steam but I doubt it'll ever happen.

You all know ID titles are available on Steam for Windows only, even if they have official Linux support (and Mac for Quake 4).
You can enlist to the petition group which ask Zenimax/Bethesda and Valve to cooperate in order to simply add the existing Linux and Mac versions to the Steam store. Of course emailing Zenimax/Bethesda and writing Steam support, will also be a great help.
