[ almost solved ] Counter Strike problem "content still enrypted"
1. I use ubuntu 12
2. I use lastest stable steam client from 24 jan 2013

When i try to install Counter Strike (beta) i face an error "An error occurred while updating Counter-Strike (beta) (content still encrypted)". The game is in 'paused' state and it is 100% downloaded.

EDIT [almost solved]: I have manged to play the game in windowed mode using this command:

bash ~/.local/share/Steam/SteamApps/common/Half-Life/hl.sh -game cstrike -window

P.S.: This is about Counter Strike (beta) for Linux. Please don't report your Windows version problems.

A Friend told me how to solve this problem:
Steam->Settings->Beta paricipation-> change it on "No participation".
After restart and update the game [doesn't] work[s] fine. [Just doesnt show the error]
[The problem still persists.]
[The words in bracked are from my edit :-)]

So... i found the problem.
It is that i dont own HalfLife the game. I have only Counter Strike (because i bought counter strike pack) and this cause my problem "wich is not correct".

that's strange, those are two diferent games and shouldn't conflict with each other

Have you tried to restart Steam? or checking if Counter Strike is in Beta (Game Properties → Beta)
stnv Jan 25, 2013 @ 3:36pm
It is not strange. Counter Strike 1.6 is Half Life mod. :-)
"Failed to start game shared content. Please update first Half Life" :-) My Half Life pre-load has been suspended :-)

Same problem here. Ubuntu 12.04.

I downloaded CS1.6 when my steam dpkg package were old. Then I got this error and restarted steam. It said that I should download latest package. I did it. But it did not helped. CS1.6 is still encrypted.

I updated steam from 1.0.0.17 to 1.0.0.22. So 0.17 version were active while I were downloading CS1.6

I've not purchased HalfLife too, but under Windows CS1.6 worked fine with same steam account. So I don't think half-life is needed.

It is needed. You can check even if you dont have HalfLife puchased, when you install Counter Strike you install HalfLife too. You can't play it, but it is installed in your library (in yellow) :-)

HL _engine_ is needed, no doubt :)

I've tried to delete local content and download CS again - did not helped.

hmm, when I booted Linux it wasn't starting aswell, because I've downloaded CS this morning, but since then it has already been made available, so I deleted the local content and re-downloaded

If you downloaded CS before the Valve announcement you might need to delete and reinstall

Edit: your post appeared right as I posted mine, so disregard it

It might matter, in the list of games it writes 'Counter-Strike (Beta) - Update suspended'

take a look at this thread http://steamcommunity.com/app/221410/discussions/0/864957912727557517/

the problem is similar and I think they figured it out

No, It is not the same. We can't even run the game. Their problem is different. And it is used different Linux distribution (Suse).

Same issue here (encrypted content, and I don't own Half Life).
I'm running Arch x86_64, hope someone find a fix soon.
Anyway, I didn't expect this game to be ported any time soon (or at all, actually), great job Valve !
